Rainbow belt blocking hydrogen
A double layer was observed on the surface of reduced activation ferritic martensitic (RAFM) steel. The upper layer (iridescent and square) and the amorphous layer (black) below it is known to act as a hydrogen permeation barrier, which prevent hydrogen gas from passing through the material.
