Dr. Priti, COE Research Fellow of NIFS, who will be retiering in this August and returning to India, will give her last talk at NIFS entitled “Spectroscopy of multi-valence highly charged Ions”.

Title: Spectroscopy of multi-valence highly charged Ions
My research interests focus on understanding of atomic processes at the fundamental level and their application to various fields of science and technology including fusion research, astrophysics, and plasma physics. While working on this, I’ve been involved in several exciting projects such as high-accuracy atomic structure calculations, generation of recommended atomic data for fusion energy research, modeling of low- and high-temperature plasmas, and precision spectroscopy of highly-charged ions (HCI). In the present talk, I will be discussing about spectroscopy of multiply charged tungsten ions produced in electron beam ion trap (EBIT) and its analysis through collisional radiative models along with accurate structure calculations. These lower charge state spectra are highly relevant to ITER SOL and divertor plasmas. Interestingly, not only in fusion diagnostics but also forbidden lines of such multi-valence highly charged ions in optical range are proposed for developing next generation atomic clocks sensitive to variation in the fine-structure constant,α. I will discuss a glimpse of our recent study related to laser spectroscopy for studying fundamental atomic properties such as transition wavelengths, lifetime and hyperfine-structure splitting.
