The 3rd Plasma Quantum Processes seminar

The Plasma Quantum Process Unit holds monthly seminars to disseminate the research activities of the Unit.
This time, Dr. H. Yamaguchi, Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, JAXA, will give a lecture titled “High-resolution X-ray spectroscopy of astrophysical plasmas with the X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRISM)”.
We hope many of you will join us.

Title: High-resolution X-ray spectroscopy of astrophysical plasmas with the X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRISM)

Abstract:

X-Ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRISM) is JAXA’s X-ray astronomy satellite to be launched within a few months. XRISM is equipped with an X-ray microcalorimeter as the primary instrument, which achieves the spectral resolution 30 times higher than that of currently operating X-ray missions. This enables us to perform highly accurate plasma diagnostics on hot and energetic objects such as galaxy clusters, supernova remnants, and X-ray binaries. In this seminar, I will outline this space mission and its instruments, and introduce the expected science outcomes focusing on the connection between plasma/fusion physics and astrophysics.
